If no boundaries can be seen for miles around and even horizons seem to fade away, orientation gets lost. The human condition is defined by contact with boundaries, by interfaces with environments. He who does not respect his own limits ultimately gives himself up. Boundaries dissolve in drug abuse, in lacking emotional bonds, in megalomania, and in financial erosion.
This year’s Academia Engelberg Conference, which will take place in October, will deal with the topic “At the Limits”. As with previous conferences, the morning of the second day of the conference will be shaped and organized by a group of students coming from different countries. They will add the perspective of Generation Y to the conference and elaborate on the topic of the annual conference adding the different viewpoints of their countries.
The summer school will start by introducing students to economic reasoning, and it will train them to think in terms of economic incentives and equilibria. The training provided will allow participants to critically evaluate contributions regarding economic systems and to actively contribute to developing new ideas for a better functioning of present systems. Another focus of this summer school is group work to prepare the content of the morning at the Academia Engelberg Conference in October shaped by students.
