16:30 – 21:00
On behalf of the NOMIS Foundation, we are pleased to invite you to two exciting lectures by pioneering researchers and recipients of the 2023 NOMIS Distinguished Scientist and Scholar Award, David Autor (MIT) and Anne Brunet (Stanford University), on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Kunsthaus Zurich.
NOMIS Awardees play a critical role in the collective effort of scientists and scholars collaborating across disciplines and exchanging ideas to gain new knowledge, generate insights and ultimately advance our understanding of the world. NOMIS Insight lectures provide a unique environment for the awardees to introduce their groundbreaking research and insights, fostering knowledge sharing, engagement and connection within the scientific community.
Speakers
David Autor is a world-renowned labor economist at MIT whose research is advancing our understanding of the labor-market impacts of technological change and globalization on job polarization, skill demands, earnings levels and inequality, and electoral outcomes. He is exploring how emerging innovations—AI in particular—may reshape the demand for labor by increasing the value of expertise or by reducing the value of skills, even if jobs are not lost in net.
Anne Brunet is a biologist at Stanford University who has made important contributions to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of aging and longevity. She is using a scalable killifish platform developed in her lab to investigate the mechanisms underlying synchronization between different organs over long periods of time, and how this is modulated during aging and suspended animation.
