For a long time, the Arctic played a small role within global politics – at least in most people’s minds. This has definitely changed. In this online event, we take a closer look at why and in what ways the Artic region has taken centre stage geopolitically – and what the future might hold for the Arctic region.
While the interest in the Arctic region is nothing new, at least when it comes to the eight Arctic states, recent developments have moved the Arctic region into the spotlight on a more global scale. Attention for the region around the North Pole is growing worldwide due to climate change, rich natural resource, trading routes, military interests – and geopolitical rivalries. This is exemplified by the case of Greenland, which has figured prominently in the media in recent weeks and months, not least due to allusions made by the new US administration.
The aim of this online event is to offer participants the opportunity of gaining insights into developments in the Artic region, not least the diverging interests of the eight Artic states, and to discuss what the future might hold for the Arctic region and the people who live there. After an expert input by Dr. Romain Chuffart, president and managing director of the Arctic Institute, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and to discuss.
